Surprising for some chinese crap phono preamp. I hear the argument that the tubes are just buffers, but they change the sound for the better. Overall it feels more natural and warm in all the right ways. Bass is a little looser especially compared to the Mani, but the overall presentation is wider and more balanced. The Fosi X2 can easily compete at a level that's similar to the Schiit Mani, but offer a way more succulent experience.įosi X2 opens up the music more, it's clearer and more shimmer in the highs, mids have a bit more hit which I prefer on vinyl. This wasn't what I expected at all because I've played around with some of the other cheap Chinese tube preamps and they're nice, but not spectacular. Stereo pre-amplifier for use with turntables. With upgraded tubes I came the conclusion that the Fosi/Aiyima tube phonos just sound way magnitudes. This handy little box will amplify the signal from a turntable, making it suitable for line level (AUX) inputs. I did upgrade my tubes to NOS Voskhod 6n1p-ev tubes, but out of the box the sound was very nice. I went back and forth so many times and the Fosi Tube sound was just so more more enjoyable, by like a lot. Then I bought the Fosi more as an experiment. That purchased changed everything. On my Sansui system, I thought the the Schiit Mani was an upgrade to the Sansui phono, it just gelled well together. Eventually I actually ended up going with the Marantz built in phono which I found to be just the right balance. At first I really dug it, but it did make prolonged listening tiring. On my Marantz system I found the Schitt Mani to be really nice, but it tired me because of the sharper highs and lows. Prior to me having the Fosi x2 phono I ran through a few different phono/preamps.I had a Pro-ject Phono then an Adcom pre with a phono, went on to really like the Schiit Mani. Tested with the same set of tubes and it was spot on exact. I ended getting a Fosi X2 and a Aiyima T3 for a separate project and I can confirm that they are exactly the same, other than having a different brand name. Lol whatever, will post a review of it once I get it and hear what's up. Many thanks to the community! I look forward to your advice!Įdit: cancelled the fosi, found a Rolls vp29 phono preamp surprisingly made in USA! Also came with rca cords so I ended up saving close to 35 over the fosi. ( I saw this unit as two other "brands" for 2x what fosi and aiyima were charging) just seems weird. My question is should I cancel the tube preamp and go with the tcc tc 750lc? Or are there any tube style preamps that can be recommended or any other suggestions? (doesn't have to be tube) I am not sure I am a fan of cross branded things. AIYIMA Tube T3 appears to be the exact same product. Another concern is that I am seeing this unit appears to be mass produced and cross branded. I say mistakingly because honestly, I just love the look of tubes. I (mistakingly?)Ordered a fosi audio box x2 tube powered preamp. It is beautiful! I ordered a pre amp that hasn't arrived and think I allowed visual appeal to over ride logic. Well, I recently came here for advice on a turn table.
